Mahawam "Hand On My Sword"

MOLLY HOUSE RECORDS | 2024

by Steven Logan

“Hand On My Sword” starts low, rumbling, just like the toxic relationship Oakland’s Mahawam sings about on this sprawling indie dance track. The familiar cycle of co-dependency becomes a duel, tension rises with standout lyrics “Like a fever boils blood / So do you inspire violence.” Vocal samples and drums swirl around Mahawam as they work through the chaos of this relationship, but by the time we get to the chorus, we’re ready for the fight, even relishing it.

“Hand On My Sword” was Mahawam’s first of three singles so far in 2024 ahead of EP Hot Pressed, out April 19 through Molly House Records.
